The signatures were intact, but the linen tapes had dried out. We resewed on new tapes and re-used the original map plates.
Books that were meant to be opened again.
We repair, rebind and make books by hand. One workshop, one bench, a few commissions at a time.

- Loose hinges, broken spines, detached boards, torn pages. We keep the original materials wherever they can be saved.
- Rebinding
- Sewn on tapes or cords, with new endpapers and cloth or leather covers. Suitable for family Bibles, cookbooks, theses and field notes.
- Custom notebooks
- Sketchbooks, guest books and journals in the paper, size and cover cloth you choose. Minimum order is one.
- Boxes and slipcases
- Made to measure to protect fragile volumes and loose collections.

Autumn opening hours
The workshop is open by appointment from September. Drop-off for repairs is on Thursdays.
About
Halden Bindery started as a weekend hobby and became a full-time workshop in 2019. Every book is taken apart, assessed and reassembled by the same two people, so we can tell you exactly what was done and why.
We work with acid-free papers, wheat-starch paste and archival board. We do not use hot-melt glue on anything we want to last.
